So we won’t be doing commands to restore this to factory settings like it was when it was brand new. The new method is better and more trustworthy and is only applicable to the newer generation of MacBook so places keep this in mind before continuing.
Basic Universal Steps To Reset
- So first, we are going to erase everything from within the Mac including photos, documents, Apple ID everything from it.
- Secondly, we are going to set it up with a new Apple ID
- Then shut the MacBook down. so as long as it’s fully shut down we’re just going to hold on to the button on the top right-hand side that’s your power button or your fingerprint ID.
- So after that, we are going to press that button and are going to hold on to that button until we see continue holding for setup options.
Various Methods of MacBook Reset
Now there are various ways that we are teaching you how to reset your MacBook because there isn’t just one way to do the whole formatting thing.
So right now we’re going to see loading startup and on this screen, you should see the option where it says options.
- We’re going to select that.
- Then select Continue. After that, it’s just going to load.
- Now remember we do need Wi-Fi or Internet for this to happen.
- After you have connected to a Wi-Fi we’re going to see where it says recovery assistant. so just click on the top left metis recovery assistant.
- So after that what we have to do is pick erase Mac or the second option from here we’re going to see this so just select erase Mac.
- Once we click on erase Mac it’s going to tell us Are you sure you want to erase your Mac. Click yes! we do this as it’s going to take out everything from here. this is the way that we can bring it back to factory settings.
- On the top right-hand corner, you guys will see a Wi-Fi Sigma object just make sure you guys have an Internet connection.
- If you’re having problems with your Wi-Fi just use an Ethernet cable. obviously, for these newer Macs, you would need an adapter to hook up an Ethernet cable from your router directly to your Mac.
- After you have clicked erase Mac at this point we should see a black screen. this is normal. An apple logo will appear and you are going to start back up and going to see a loading bar.
- After that here we go select the language of English or any language that you are comfortable with.
- So finally we can go ahead and start up again.
Activation Of Mac:
So we can set it up so that after you choose English we’re going to activate our Mac. so we do need to select a Wi-Fi network. so again on the top right-hand corner, you guys will see Wi-Fi so just tap on our Wi-Fi, and then you’re going to select whichever Wi-Fi makes sense to you.
Right now by the way we’re activating our Mac after it is connected to your Wi-Fi. it’s going to go on with the activation.
So at this point, it is asking us about this Apple ID this Mac is tied to. However, let’s say we don’t want to put that ID e-mail and all that stuff let’s just go into using the device password. so let’s go into the device’s password and you’re going to enter that. once we answer that just press next and we’re going to go on with the next step
if you guys know that Apple ID that it had from before, is going to be saved put it in. After that, we’re going to go run through the next steps.
Precaution: if you bought your MacBook from somebody you should be doing this restoration with them in front of you. so if there’s any passwords or anything saved they’re the ones that are going to take it out.
So congratulations! Right, it should say your Mac is activated. so we’re going to exit to recovery utilities.
The Other Way To Reset:
So at this point, I want to show you another way. so it will take us back to the point of option.
Go to disk utility, it’s another way to do this .then what you would usually do is just erase everything from here. however in this case we don’t have to do that so we have internal untitled which is where it’s usually called Mac OS but it should be a PFS.
Here what you would do is choose to erase. you would erase everything plus the data and there you go. however, we kind of already did that we readjust everything from within it. so we just have to reinstall everything but it’s just another way to do this.
That’s how we used to do this with older Macs anyways with command R when you go to this utility erase everything and then just reload everything. At this point what we have to do is just reinstall Mac or OS. we’re going to continue on and just set up our Mac again.
We’re going to activate it with a new Apple ID. So we have to select this now I usually don’t like to have to select untitled. Most people like to have it as Mac OS HD or something. we’re going to go ahead and continue and yes generally you want this to be connected to some power source so nothing happens to it. it does run faster anyways if you don’t do that but in this case, we’re just going to continue. then it’s just going to start this whole download process.
it won’t take long actually. it’s going to be pretty fast.
If you go down you can see that down here below the speed of the download. This does depend on your Internet speed. So for most people it only took 30 minutes for example if your Internet speed goes down today then maybe it’s going to take 2 hours that’s why it’s taking so long.
Then we’re going to need to activate everything and just set it up with our new app ID. So just after about an hour or so depends you’re going to see this you’re going to see your Mac restart up the logo and not just the logo it also has a loading bar. then we just have to wait for it to load.
So just after that loading, it’s just going to restart. We’re going to see this and that’s it we’re done. right now we can go on with the setup. so we can select the country, everything and it’s back to factory settings. if you like to sell this in the market at this point it’s going to be fine.
If your selling your Mac then another procedure is important to follow if that’s why you’re doing this then just hold on and force shut it down. so there you can hold on to it until it just shuts down or you can set it up right now. You could also actually set it up without an Apple ID if you guys want.
So go ahead and set it up again If that’s what you want to do we’re going to go ahead now and so on and keep going with the setup. however, as I mentioned you don’t have to you can just shut it down at this point. just by holding this power button that’s not just for your fingerprint but power button. hold on to it until they shut down you will see a black screen that would be it.
